Goose Break
The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi members annual tradition occurs year after year to continue and embrace our way of life, our values and our cultural traditional practices. Our annual Goose Break/hunt happens during the months of April and May.
Waswanipi Day
The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi celebrates their community anniversary on June 10th of each year. The last major event occurred in 2016 when we celebrated our 40th anniversary. For more information, please contact the Culture Department.
Canada Day Celebrations
Every year our community celebrates the Canada Day as part of our heritage and history to Canada. Various departments host many activities for everyone and fun games for our children on July 1st. Our Grand Finale is the famous Fireworks!!!
Chiiwetau
Chiiwetau is annual gathering at the Old Post where many cultural and tradutional activities and practices happen.. This event takes place in the last two (2) weeks of July. Everyone is Welcome to attend.
Fishing Derby
The Fishing Derby is an annual event where many participants come from all over Canada to compete in the derby. Both Women and Men catogories are in competition to capture the top prizes yaear after year. The derby takes place at the Waswanipi lake (Old Post) every year in August.
Moose Break
The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi members annual tradition occurs year after year to continue and embrace our way of life, our values and our cultural traditional practices. Our annual Moose Break/hunt happens during the months of September and October.
Outing
The Cree First Nation of Waswanipi administration and staff annual outing for an early shopping occurrs during the Black Friday weekend in November. It' is a time to meet and greet family members and friends during this outing.
Christmas Festivities
Our Christmas Festivities kicks-off aound December 18th of each year with a Community Parade. All activities, events and programs are all over the community and facilities. For more information please contact our Leisure and Sports Services department at 819-753-2600.
New Year's Celebrations
This event occurs on New Year's Eve and Day as well. It's a community celebrations where many prizies can be won and lots of local talent performers perform to entertain our community members.
Jackie Gull Memorial Pipun Eeeyou Eetouwin
This Cultural and Traditional event organized by the Cree Trappers Association (CTA) in memory of late Jackie Gull occurrs between the month of February and March of each year. For more information please contact CTA office at 819-753-2322.
Winter Games Festivities
Our annual Winter Games Festivities occurs in the early month of March with many activities and games for everyone to enjoy. At times, ski-doo races are hosted if the weather permits. For more information please contact our Leisure and Sports Services department at 819-753-2600.
